Dworkin Investigations, LLC (VA DCJS License 117403) is a private Mitigation and Investigation firm owned and operated in the Northern Virginia area by Samuel W. Dworkin. Sam obtained his Undergraduate degree in Psychology, then received a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. His experience has been primarily focused on indigent capital defense as a Mitigation Specialist and Investigator in Virginia and Washington, DC; however; he has accepted, and continues to accept, appointment as as an out-of-state Mitigation Specialist. Sam has capital and non-capital felony experience at both the state and federal court levels.

Sam Dworkin takes private and court appointment across the country as an Investigator as well. He has worked with regional branches of The Innocence Project conducting investigations and post juror interviews. Mr. Dworkin has also aided in Post-Conviction, Civil, and other Criminal investigative work.

Sam has considerable experience in foreign investigative travel. He has also provided  courtroom testimony, and has been Court Qualified as an Expert in the field of Mitigation. Sam not only attends and presents at, but also plans, Capital Defense workshops and conferences for the Virginia American Bar Association, as well as NASAMS (The National Alliance of Sentencing Advocates and Mitigation Specialists). He is an Executive Committee member of NASAMS (the Vice Chair), and has also been an Adjunct Professor at Marymount University, teaching the Masters level course, The Death Penalty and Mitigation, for the University’s Forensic and Legal Psychology department. From 2018 to the present, Sam has also served as a Mitigation Specialist and Expert in numerous Juvenile Resentencing Hearings in the DC Superior Court under IRAA/SLA (the Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act / Second Look Act).
